Terms of Service
1. Acceptance
By using FontDash (the "Service"), including the web application at fontdash.com and the desktop applications for Windows, macOS, and Linux, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. Description of Service
FontDash is a font management tool that allows users to browse, preview, compare, and install fonts. The Service includes a web application and downloadable desktop applications for Windows, macOS, and Linux. FontDash accesses the Google Fonts API to display font data. Fonts themselves are provided by Google and are subject to their respective open-source licenses (primarily the SIL Open Font License).
3. User Accounts
Certain features may require account creation in the future. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials. You agree to provide accurate information and to update it as needed.
4. Acceptable Use
You agree not to: (a) use the Service for any unlawful purpose; (b) attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the desktop application beyond what is permitted by applicable law; (c) use automated tools to scrape or overload the Service; (d) interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure.
5. Font Licensing
Fonts accessed through FontDash are third-party assets. Google Fonts are licensed under the SIL Open Font License or Apache License 2.0. System fonts displayed in the desktop application are licensed by their respective vendors. FontDash does not grant any additional license rights to fonts beyond what their original license permits. Users are responsible for verifying font licenses before use in commercial projects.
6. Desktop Application
The desktop application installs fonts to your operating system's user font directory. On Windows, this is the user fonts folder. On macOS, this is ~/Library/Fonts. On Linux, this is ~/.local/share/fonts. FontDash does not modify system-level directories and does not require administrator privileges for font installation. You may uninstall fonts at any time through the application or your operating system's font management tools.
7. Intellectual Property
FontDash, its logo, design, and original code are the property of the FontDash team. The Service uses open-source libraries and components, each subject to their own licenses. User-created collections, projects, and configurations remain the property of the user.
8. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components. Font installation and system font scanning are performed at your own risk.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, FontDash and its creators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of data, system instability from font installation, or loss of profits arising from your use of the Service.
10. Changes to Terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. We will indicate the date of the latest revision at the top of this page.
Privacy Policy
1. Data We Collect
Web application: We do not collect personal data. No account is required to use the web app. We do not use cookies for tracking. Font preferences and collections are stored locally in your browser (localStorage) and are not transmitted to our servers.
Desktop application: The desktop app stores your preferences, collections, and cached font data locally on your device. No data is sent to FontDash servers. The app connects to the Google Fonts API to fetch font metadata; this connection is between your device and Google's servers.
2. Third-Party Services
FontDash uses the Google Fonts API to display font information. When you browse or preview fonts, your device makes requests to Google's servers. Google's privacy policy applies to those requests. We also use Vercel for web hosting, which may collect standard web server logs (IP addresses, request timestamps). See Vercel's privacy policy for details.
3. System Font Scanning
The desktop application can scan your system's font directories to display installed fonts. This scan is performed locally on your device. Font file names and family names are read but never transmitted outside your device. You can disable system font scanning in Settings.
4. Future Account Features
If we add account features in the future, we will update this policy before launch. Any account data will be stored securely, and you will be informed of exactly what is collected and why before creating an account.
5. Analytics
We may add privacy-respecting analytics in the future (such as Plausible or Fathom) to understand basic usage patterns. If we do, we will update this policy. We will never sell data or use invasive tracking.
6. Data Deletion
Since we store data locally on your device, you can delete all FontDash data by: (a) clearing localStorage in your browser (web app); (b) uninstalling the desktop application and removing the app data folder; (c) deleting any fonts installed through the application from your system font directory.
7. Children's Privacy
FontDash is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Cookie Policy
FontDash uses localStorage (not cookies) to store your preferences, theme selection, font collections, and project data. This data never leaves your browser.
Our hosting provider (Vercel) may set essential cookies for security and performance. These are necessary for the site to function and cannot be disabled.
We do not use advertising cookies, tracking cookies, or third-party analytics cookies.
